Coffee and the search for the perfect cup.

Coffee is a brewed drink prepared from roasted coffee beans, which are the seeds of berries from the Coffea plant.

And what a wonderful drink it is too. You either love it or you don’t. There can be no in-between, not with coffee.  With so many styles and flavours to choose from, there is a coffee out there for everyone.

My love of coffee and continual search for the elusive perfect cup, has been going on for many years. Growing up, my parents couldn’t afford any fancy coffee machines so like most people my taste for coffee began with instant. Nescafé Blend 43 was the coffee my parents preferred and it was the first I ever tried and continuously drank until we discovered Moccona Classic. With that we thought we had found the Holy Grail of instant coffee.

Even after growing up, leaving home and trying other brands and styles, Moccona Classic continued to be the kick starter I needed. That was until Nespresso arrived on the scene, bringing with it the ‘pod revolution’. And so, my search was to begin again. With twenty plus styles and intensities to choose from, I had to drink my way through them all until I finally found the flavour (Rosabaya De Columbia) that made drinking coffee enjoyable again.

Pod Coffee. A great idea, not so great for the environment. However a lot of countries have adopted pod recycling stations.

Recently Rosabaya and I have parted ways. It wasn’t Rosabaya, it was me. Not content to settle down and always on the look out for something better, a friend introduced me to the Breville Oracle and I fell in love. As mentioned in the ‘About Me’ section I like to spend money on shiny things and well the Oracle is over $2000 worth of shiny. It took a few weeks of continual pestering before Papa caved in and let me order one for Club Fossam.

My Breville Oracle in action.

So far Oracle and I have been getting on splendidly. There is nothing finer than the taste of freshly ground coffee beans. There is nothing more enjoyable than the aroma that fills the kitchen when making a freshly ground coffee. The challenge now is to find a coffee bean that will be able to keep me happy. So the search continues.

The Oracle has a self tamping feature. No mess, no fuss.

Do you have a favourite brand/style of coffee bean? If so, let me know in the comments below so I can give them a go.

Hey…I love Yahava for my coffee beans. I just buy a mixture each time I order.

Hi Kerry… I see I’m able to buy those beans online, so I’ll give them a try after I try the beans I bought from Five Senses. Thanks for letting me know.
